WE ARE REPUBLICANS
The Somos Republicanos movement emerged in 2024 as a result of the political turmoil and tension in Portugal.
The movement is positioning itself for the long-awaited change in which the values of transparency, improved living conditions and the fight against corruption are the cornerstones of the movement.
OBJECTIVES:
- Protecting jobs;
- Increasing salaries and pensions,
- Protect and support the industry,
- Support agriculture;
- Innovating the manufacturing industry;
- Promoting culture and valorising Portugal's natural heritage.
The movement affirms the principle of national economic sovereignty and rejects any attempts to usurp or undermine it.
SUPPORT FOR INDUSTRIES
Portugal is a small country, but it has a diversified economy and is present in a number of sectors, including textiles, food, metals, construction and footwear, the main and most lucrative of which is tourism.
It is tourism that is currently boosting the economy because it also drives construction.
The Somos Republicanos (We Are Republicans) movement believes that the mechanisms to support industries involve creativity and a paradigm shift that needs to start with each employer, not only in large companies, but also in small and medium-sized enterprises.
In tourism, the Movement believes that more effective security platforms need to be created so that foreigners travelling through our country feel safe in the big cities.
In other industrial sectors such as food, textiles and footwear, we need to raise quality, meet what international markets are looking for and reinvent our products. To do this, the movement argues that we need to encourage and empower university technology centres to carry out research, investigation and creativity in these areas so that Portugal can enter a competitive market.
The Somos Republicanos (We Are Republicans) movement also believes that the industries operating in our country should focus on the international market, open up ways to sell our differentiated products and have a global vision so that we can all grow in the future.
Somos Republicanos argues that Portugal's great achievements should be shared with the rest of the world.

TRIBUTE TO CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE.
As Republicans, we recognise that all parents and caregivers around the world want only the best for their children and want to see them grow up feeling safe and secure. They want to see their children loved, happy and valued so that they can feel that they belong in their families, their school and their community.
INCREASING WAGES AND PENSIONS
The Somos Republicanos movement believes that by reducing the tax burden in Portugal, large companies based abroad will be able to relocate to their country of origin, which in turn will generate greater wealth and only then will there be a significant increase in the wage packet of all Portuguese.
Somos Republicanos argues that we need to reverse the culture, produce and consume more national products and import less.
The movement is also calling for an increase in the minimum wage of between 15 and 20 per cent, so that Portugal's economy can be brought up to par with Europe's and be energised.
Portugal cannot continue to support a small percentage that lives above the level of the most developed countries, while the rest of the population survives in precarious conditions.
