Portugal is a small country, but it has a diversified economy and is present in a number of sectors, including textiles, food, metals, construction and footwear, the main and most lucrative of which is tourism.
It is tourism that is currently boosting the economy because it also drives construction.
The Somos Republicanos (We Are Republicans) movement believes that the mechanisms to support industries involve creativity and a paradigm shift that needs to start with each employer, not only in large companies, but also in small and medium-sized enterprises.
In tourism, the Movement believes that more effective security platforms need to be created so that foreigners travelling through our country feel safe in the big cities.
In other industrial sectors such as food, textiles and footwear, we need to raise quality, meet what international markets are looking for and reinvent our products. To do this, the movement argues that we need to encourage and empower university technology centres to carry out research, investigation and creativity in these areas so that Portugal can enter a competitive market.
The Somos Republicanos (We Are Republicans) movement also believes that the industries operating in our country should focus on the international market, open up ways to sell our differentiated products and have a global vision so that we can all grow in the future.
Somos Republicanos argues that Portugal's great achievements should be shared with the rest of the world.

As Republicans, we recognise that all parents and caregivers around the world want only the best for their children and want to see them grow up feeling safe and secure. They want to see their children loved, happy and valued so that they can feel that they belong in their families, their school and their community.
PROTECT JOBS!
The Somos Republicanos (We Are Republicans) movement argues that in order to protect jobs, we need to boost the economy.
Portugal still has a very closed economy and we need to export more. We're a small country with huge potential and quality products, but we lack the mechanisms to position ourselves on the international market.
Somos Republicanos' mission is to find mechanisms to boost the economy and, with this, to encourage companies to be more flexible and hire safely, with the ultimate goal of creating more jobs. In turn, the movement believes that this business flexibility will create more democracy at work and freedom for all workers and greater choice.
The movement believes that supervisory systems should be put in place so that the state can collect taxes from ordinary citizens and large companies, and to this end, the Republicans are in favour of reducing the tax burden.
